Dear Friends,
As you have probably heard, the government is supporting the building of a 250 dunam gas plant in Hof- Hacarmel.
Since the government is keen on using gas to produce a larger part of the energy in the country (in and of itself a good thing) it has forwarded Nobel energy and Itzhak Teshuva's plans in a scandalous way, without complying with the planning and building laws, and with no consideration for our safety or health. It has allowed the company to choose the site at their discretion and blindly accepts all of the information supplied by Nobel energy, which mostly serve the company's profits and does not take our safety or health into consideration.
It is important to know that in most of the world plants of this sort are not placed in populated areas.
There are serious implications on a number of fronts:
Contrary to what Nobel energy would like us (and the government) to believe, experts on the subject believe that the plant would not only depressurize the gas, which is arriving at the site under tremendous pressure (approx. 450 Bars, about 3 times the pressure of other gas arriving at most other plants) but would also need to purify it from the poisonous heavy metals, which occur naturally in the crude gas, dispose of these poisons, and perhaps liquefy the surplus that is expected to accrue in order to prepare it for shipping abroad.
The danger of leakage is very likely. The gas has no smell and is very poisonous.
The emissions from all of the processing will lead to air pollution which in addition to having an offensive smell (which will be constant) is a health hazard.
Our beautiful area, recognized by the U.N. as a precious Biosphere, will turn in to a heavily industrialized area.
We will become a prime security target. It will be all too easy to ignite the whole of Hof-Hacarmel with little effort, with the smallest and most conventional missile or bomb.
Tourism will be hit hard as will be the agriculture if there is leakage into the ground.
It is important to understand that there are large quantities of gas in the Mediterranean and once there is one plant here, it will be all too easy to add on others.
We are not against the use of gas. There is a solution that will provide an answer to all of the above problems, though it will cost the company more time and money:
A barge at sea is the only viable solution!!!!!
How to help:
Our time is very short and we need any help that you can offer.
Sign our petition.
Write to the Knest members. Sms them.
Any contacts to the press or Kneset members that you may have will be very helpful. There is a letter on the site that you can sign and send.
Any way that you can help and raise awareness is also helpful, on the internet calling up radio shows or getting local papers to cover the issue.
We have to come together and save our home and provide for the future health of our children.
No one else is going to do it for us…..
